At a Sunday rally in New Hampshire, Trump continued to downplay the surging pandemic. There were over 83,000 new cases of the virus Sunday. This is not COVID-19 turning the corner. Rather, this is a raging pandemic that is racing out of control. Mark Meadows, the President’s Chief of Staff told CNN on Sunday said, “we are not going to control the pandemic.” He thinks the focus should only be on vaccines and treatments. What about masks and social distancing?

I believe the President only cares about getting re-elected. He offers no solutions and provides no empathy for the people COVID-19 has killed. His lack of understanding, compassion, and leadership is astounding. I guess we no longer need to wear masks or social distance. Just let the people die.

Trump also dismissed any notion of implementing any shutdowns to stop spreading the virus. He called Joe Biden, “ the shutdown candidate.” Biden has not ruled out closing bars or gyms if the spread of the virus continues unchecked. Saving lives matters.

The President said, “They’ll shut down your freedom and they’ll shut down the greatest economic comeback of our country.”

The last week of the campaign will see Trump holding his huge rallies with few wearing masks or practicing social distancing. Still, 60 percent of Americans do not approve of his COVID-19 policies. He has mocked mask wearing and pressured Republican governors to re-open their states too soon for political gain. As a result, the virus is on the warpath again.

Over 58 million people have cast their ballots. It is likely most of these voters are Democrats and Independents, because Trump has shown his disapproval of mail-in voting. Since most of these voters are probably not Republican, it may be Trump has already lost the election.

I’m A Ronald Reagan Republican and I voted for Joe Biden.
