Trump Must Attend Biden's Inauguration

For our sake, the president should attend Joe Biden’s inauguration

Donald Trump lost the election and has tried his best to overturn the result. Yet, most of his lawsuits have been thrown out and all ballot recounts have favored Biden. When Trump lost to Biden nobody believed he would concede, let alone attend the new president’s inauguration. Trump has stated he will never accept the loss, believing the election was rigged in Biden’s favor.

While it seems unlikely, some Republicans and aides are encouraging him to attend the inauguration. They believe it will preserve his future influence and help heal a divided nation. Whether he will, nobody knows for sure.

Unfortunately, Donald Trump is prone to believing in conspiracy theories. His view of the election may harm the country, the Republican Party, and even himself. He has a future role to play if he wants it. Will he keep trying to divide the nation, or will he try to heal us? My bet is he will keep dividing us for his own personal gain. This is what he has always done. It is not in his character to change.

The president has not taken the traditional steps an out going commander-in-chief takes. It took weeks for him to begin the official transition of power, and he has yet to call the president-elect. He lost the election yet continues to belly-ache that the election was rigged. Really? Mr. President, where is your evidence?

If the president has any moral compass, he will man up and attend the inauguration. Don’t count on it.
