The coronavirus surge has deepened as the President Elect sets a new and science backed approach to battling the virus. A fourth consecutive day of record setting new cases is alarming, with 134,000 new cases reported. The Midwest, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and the state of Washington reported 1100 virus deaths on Saturday.

COVID-19 has now killed 237,000 people. While Trump moans about losing an election, it is Biden who is taking front stage on tackling the virus. The President Elect has begun organizing his task force planning an effective response to the pandemic on his first day of office.

“I want everyone, everyone to know, on day one, we’re going to put our plan to control this virus into action,” he said from Wilmington, Del. “We can’t save any of the lives lost, any of those who have been lost, but we can save a lot of lives in the months ahead.”

Health officials warn that new virus cases and deaths will spike as people gather for Thanksgiving. Pandemic fatigue has set in and many people have let their guard down regarding mask wearing and social distancing. The crisis may peak just as Biden takes office.

“The combination of state-mandated community mitigation efforts and routine public health interventions can reduce the occurrence of new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths,” according to a CDC report.

Mark Meadows, Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff, is the latest person near the President to become infected with COVID-19. The White House as a matter of routine has ignored CDC guidelines.

It is this writer’s opinion that the current President has failed to do all he can to protect us from the virus. He had his chance to follow the science back in January. Yet, he downplayed it for political purposes. Hopefully, Trump will do something before he leaves office. I’m not holding my breath.
