Attorney General refutes Trumps conspiracy theories regarding election
Since the presidential election ended, Donald Trump has been spewing falsehoods regarding the result. Mr. President, you lost. Your own hand-picked Attorney General said so. Both Homeland Security and the Justice Department have investigated the matter and found nothing that would overturn the election.
Bill Barr has acted more like Trump's personal lawyer since he arrived on the scene, making this public rebuke of his boss surprising. Perhaps shock is a better word. Trump has tried to win the election by filing over 30 lawsuits, losing most of them.
This public reproach of Trumps fraud claims should put election conspiracy theories to rest. In normal times it would. Unfortunately, these are not normal times and Trumpism is in vogue. We can expect the president to continue to undermine democracy, because he is preparing his 2024 comeback. If he does not run again, someone worse might.
We must be careful what we wish for!
